Broken Plains 1-21 / After Pare Lorentz, 2021

Charcoal, graphite and ink on paper [Created in response to Pare Lorentz’s 1936 film “The Plow That Broke The Plains”, this film was created by hand drawing 21 individual frames that together create an endlessly looping video of harvester machinery crossing the Kansas plains at night. Lorentz’s original documentary was commissioned by the United States Resettlement Administration as a way to draw attention to the plight of Americans affected by the Dust Bowl ecological crisis and build support for the New Deal.] Original Score by Rafaël Leloup
