Artsy Spotlight Auction: Tomokazu Matsuyama

Artsy is honored to present “Tomokazu Matsuyama for the Asian American Arts Alliance,” an auction of a single painting from the artist’s most recent body of work. Titled Another Believer, the painting reflects the artist’s continued exploration of diverse cultures and art movements, resulting in a dreamlike composition that borrows from Pop art as much as traditional Japanese art from the Edo and Meiji eras. Majestic and spellbinding, Another Believer marks the most important work by the artist to ever come up for auction.

As one of the most dynamic and lauded artists working today, Matsuyama’s participation in Artsy’s auction is particularly noteworthy. Honoring AAPI Heritage Month, the auction presents a rare opportunity to collect an exceptional work of art while supporting the important work of the Asian American Arts Alliance (A4). Since 1983, the organization has been promoting and celebrating the representation and accomplishments of Asian American artists and cultural organizations. As the only U.S.-based service organization devoted to the developments of Asian American artists, A4’s support is particularly meaningful, especially in light of the recent hate crimes committed against members of the Asian American community. The artist has generously agreed to donate a portion of his proceeds to A4.
