Carriage Trade: Benefit Auction 2018

Artsy x Carriage Trade have partnered for this online-only benefit auction to help support Carriage Trade's upcoming programming.

Carriage trade was founded on Prince Street in Soho in 2008 with the goal of presenting aesthetically innovative and socially relevant group exhibitions. Now located in Chinatown, our programming combines the non-commercial mission of a non-profit with the scale and programming flexibility of a small gallery, while incorporating the historical scope of a museum by exhibiting artwork from the pre and postwar eras within the context of contemporary art.

Offering an alternative to the tendency to present artists within one-person shows or art fair booths where shared influences and historical precedents may not be apparent, carriage trade’s group exhibitions assert interconnectedness among artists regardless of period, medium, or style. Meant to function partly as means of critical reflection within contemporary discourse, the inclusion in the exhibitions of historical artworks is intended provide a context for new work, which might benefit from being presented within a larger historical continuum.

Carriage Trade wishes to express their gratitude to the participating artists, many of whom have exhibited at carriage trade in the past, for their generosity in donating their artwork.

This sale closes on Tuesday, December 18th at 4:00pm EST.
