With “Under the Same Sun,” American artist and collector Vaughn Spann (b. 1992) draws a long line connecting generations of Black artists working across painting, printmaking, sculpture, and photography. Curated in honor of Black History Month, this collection brings together works—all available now—by modern and emerging artists born between 1933 and 1997. The history of Black abstraction, in particular, is embodied by works ranging from postwar innovators like Sam Gilliam to contemporary artists like Brenna Youngblood.
