TWO-IN-ONE event -- the closing ceremony of one of the largest exhibitions of works by world-renowned 20th century master, Pablo Picasso, and the opening gala of the Marcel Mouly exhibition, “Light and Color” on May 5, 2017, Friday, from 6 pm to 8 pm. The Picasso exhibition “Diary of a Master,” which showcases over 400 pieces by the master, will draw to a close on the first Friday of May. The exhibit’s main body is the collection of 347 etchings done by the artist from March to November of 1968 when he was 87 years old. Thousands of Floridians, out-of-state, and international visitors have already viewed the exhibit at the showroom of Baterbys Art Gallery since the exhibition opened on February 18th. To be featured in “Marcel Mouly: Light and Color” will be an unparalleled exhibit of over 50 original paintings by the artist from the 1950’s until his final years. Marcel Mouly was one of the last students of the School of Paris and was a prominent proponent of Fauvism. His artistic style has been heavily influenced by Picasso’s Cubism and the strong, bold colors of the Fauves (Wild Beasts). Collected worldwide, Mouly’s works have been included and exhibited as part of the permanent collections of more than 20 major museums globally, including the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Museum of Geneva, the Museum of Modern Art in Helsinki, the Museum of Modern Art in Japan, and Paris’ Bibliotheque National. Complementing the Mouly exhibition is the sale of the similarly-titled book, “Marcel Mouly: Light and Color” authored by Richard Hart, Baterbys’ Senior Appraiser. The author will be available to sign copies of the books sold during the event with a percentage of the proceeds to benefit the Florida Hospital for Children. This special “two-in-one” event on May 5 will include informational talks on Marcel Mouly and his connection to the Fauves, and Cubists, like Braque, and Picasso. Complimentary beverages and light hors d’oeuvres, valuable giveaways, as well as exceptional deals on fine and decorative art. Entrance fee for this particular event will be a minimum donation of $10 per person; with 100% of sales on event tickets, Picasso Exhibition guidebooks and t-shirts; and 10% of proceeds from the sale of Picasso works and all fine art during the event being given to the Florida Hospital for Children.
