Darkness is a strong component of Ruth’s paintings. Whether it’s a nurturing or ominous presence is a matter of opinion. Darkness is not necessarily macabre or threatening. For those of us who grew up in the countryside surrounded by fields, darkness simply revealed another side of nature.
