Please join us for a reception and discussion event at Burning in Water on June 2 at 6 pm in conjunction with our current exhibition, "a certain kind of Eden."
Critic, curator and writer Hrag Vartanian will host a talk with artist Valerie Hegarty and attendees.
Hrag Vartanian is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Hyperallergic -- "a forum for playful, serious and radical perspectives on art." Hrag regularly writes and lectures about performance art, the online art world, street art and multiculturalism. The Hyperallergic Newsletter has over 70,000 subscribers and Hyperallergic was named as "best blog" by the national art critics association in 2014.
Valerie Hegarty is a Brooklyn-based artist working in various media whose work often addresses themes of memory, place and history. She describes her work as "informed by the current turbulent state of our country while also excavating from America's past." Valerie has enjoyed solo exhibitions at multiple galleries including Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, Marlborough Chelsea and Locust Projects and also received a commission for a sculpture project on the High Line.
Valerie's work has been shown or collected by multiple institutions including the Brooklyn Museum; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Perez Art Museum, Miami; the Saatchi Collection, London; and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art.
