This exhibition pulls together some of the great names from the history of the photographic medium. From the mid-1800s to the late 20th century, these photographers broke new ground in the technical, aesthetic, and artistic expression of the medium.
Chronologically, Disderi’s invention of the paper carte de visite (“visiting card”) photograph spawned his patent in 1854 for a system of printing up to 10 photographs onto a single sheet of photographic paper, which enabled the mass production of photographs.
