Pétanque with Paul Kos and Curators’ Walkthrough

Sat, May 21, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00pm UTC
Join curators Amy Owen and Tanya Zimbardo for a walkthrough of Equilibrium: A Paul Kos Survey followed by an opportunity to cheer on Paul Kos and special guests as they activate his site-specific installation, Zizi Va (1994), through the game of pétanque. Since the 1990s Kos has brought pétanque into various exhibition contexts and as public commissions. Also known as Boules, pétanque is an outdoor game that originated in France and is similar to bocce. Kos’s Zizi Va, recently restored in anticipation of the artist’s survey, consists of two pétanque courts and a wooden cabinet housing a sculptural installation with the male version of Marcel Duchamp’s Étant donnés, viewable through a small peephole. Located adjacent to the pétanque courts, Kos’s installation Tunnel/Chapel (1997, with Isabelle Sorrell), the artist’s video masterpiece Chartres Bleu (1982-86), and di Rosa’s Main Gallery will also be on view during the event.
