Back to Sunrise, Sunset at Emerson Dorsch

About

Statement

In Edwidge Danticat's story “Sunrise, Sunset," curator Tyler Emerson-Dorsch finds metaphors for the delicacy of memories and conveying knowledge across difference, strong starting points for an exhibition that considers how artworks do the same for the same high stakes.

DEDUCTIONS Rooftop Performance with: COLEMAN ZURKOWSKI, ANDEAN SHRINE, DRACULA, RENE NUNEZ CABRERA, CIENFUEGOS, NICK KLEIN & SECRET BOYFRIEND As an extension of SUNRISE, SUNSET at EMERSON DORSCH we consider the context of the gallery as a pinnacle of sound for the neighborhood. Utilizing the neighborhood gallery rooftop, this on-site context commands an immersive and intimate situation for the submersion of multiple composers and artists exploring the ontological aspects of the derivatives in sound, while also working with various materials, approaches, and techniques, this evening performances will offer a place for the unison of Little Haiti’s sound. When placed with or without force into a new environment, the interchange is potentially ground altering. In looking through the environmental shifts in our lifetime, there is a new sound that has arisen. While we hold onto our roots, though washed with material force we reconsider what the traditions in conversation would sound like. Through turbulence and tension, flat and serene, aggressive additions; the artists performing Deductions lends us the sounds which we have yet to assemble. If you take a look over, and listen once more what sounds guide you, what would you deduce; can deductions be heard? ...also on the roof... helper Tiki Minibar a collaborative project presented by helper's Nathan Gwynne, Zerek Kempf, Carlos Rigau instagram: @helpurr website: helperprojects.com facebook: facebook.com/helperprojects
