The exhibition "El hermano pueblo (brief retrospective)" by Saidel Brito contains two core sets of works: some pieces, serving as a summary, from series and investigations developed throughout his career, and a new production titled "El hermano pueblo." The retrospective section includes two academic drawings created in 1989, when Brito was just 15 years old - drawings of sheep in meditative and yogic positions, a ceramic piece from the "La historia es una gata que se defiende boca arriba" series from 1998, watercolors and works from the "Curul" series of 2016, and "Carta a Barradas" from 2020. The "El hermano pueblo" project is focused on the use of historical imagery and graphics generated in the countries of the communist bloc during the 20th and 21st centuries. The series explores the expressive capabilities contained in this type of graphics, where propaganda and political posters intersect with artistic exploration and rhetorical games inherent in those visual elements. The artworks aim to construct new textualities and delve into other artistic possibilities that connect with the significant value of artistic languages.
