URBAN SHAPES PROJECT

Wed, Apr 3, 2019 at 6:00pm – Sun, Apr 7, 2019 at 7:00pm UTC
This year, Galerie Ange Basso offers for the visitors of Art Paris a transversal exhibition questioning the appropriation of the urban space by three emblematic artists of the urban scene. The project « Urban Shapes » highlights the artworks produced by these artists, all using a different, singular technique : stencil, mosaic and sculpture, the combination of which forms a new kind of language between the beholders, « les regardeurs » and the artworks. Blek le Rat, godfather of the movement, took out in the early 1980’s some masterpieces from the museums to the streets, and submitted them to the gaze of the street walkers in Paris : « The city must be a museum, the greatest of all ». By realizing video-game themed mosaics, and displaying them among the streets of the cities of the whole world, Invader choses to invade the cities and to take away the pixelized characters of our childhood from the screens to dynamise our habitus. To interpellate, that is the aim of Mark Jenkins’ work. The American artist places his tape sculptures in the streets with the aim to denounce the many drifts of our society. His works interact with the public in the manner of a theater piece. By choosing to present the artworks of these artists, we would be glad to offer to the public of Art Paris an unprecedented scenographic approach of Urban art.
