In art history, colour, though often used to stunning effect, was confined by and subordinate to the subject matter. Impressionism changed that. The subject matter moved from religious, historical, and mythological themes to the ordinary and everyday - and within that, colour became a tool. No longer confined to representation, colour was released.

This exhibition presents artists who use colour within their work in a definitive way. The artworks span figurative and abstract works across a range of media - sculpture, painting, and mixed media.
