While Judy Chicago is best known as a pioneering feminist artist, GAVLAK’s presentation at Spotlight: Frieze Masters will position her within a history of art that is solely concerned with reductive form and color. The first decade of her artistic production is among the most complex, interesting, and rare of her career. From 1965 to 1973, she created drawings, paintings, and sculptures that demonstrated her affinity for exploring color and emotion through a very reduced formal vocabulary of geometric shapes.
