Artist Talk

Thu, May 4, 2023 from 3:00 – 4:00pm EDT
Ho Jae Kim will be in conversation with art historian Natalie Musteata to explore the work presented in his current solo exhibition, "Carousel," in which the artist navigates the universal relationship between divinity and purgatory. Responding to a personal tragedy, Kim’s surreal and allegorical paintings meditate upon liminal space and time. Musteata’s investigation of Kim’s creative and technical processes gestures towards his dexterity of crafting a divine comedy of his own. Ho Jae Kim (b. 1993, Seoul, South Korea) received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2016; he is currently based in New York City. Most recently, his work has been exhibited at Harper’s, New York, Los Angeles, and East Hampton (2023, 2022, and 2021); Nicodim Gallery, Los Angeles (2023); Christie's, New York (2022 and 2020); Sotheby’s, New York (2022 and 2018); EXPO Chicago, online (2021); SPRING/BREAK Art Show, New York (2020); and K&P Gallery, New York (2019). His work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Forbes, and Artsy, among other publications. Natalie Musteata is a writer, curator, and film producer. She holds a Doctorate in art history and a film certificate from The Graduate Center, CUNY. She is the curator of several exhibitions, including if I can't dance to it, it's not my revolution (2014), Haverford College, and UNREST: Revolt against Reason (2012), apexart. She writes regularly for numerous publications, including Artforum and Mousse. To attend this talk [email protected].
