The Jane Hartsook Gallery is pleased to present Rachel Eng’s New York City solo show debut. In this installation, Eng has ripped a hole in time, creating a “fissure” in the gallery floor that she has filled with forms referencing Ediacaran fauna modeled out of raw clay. These soft-bodied organisms lived on Earth 635 million years ago. By bringing these ancient lifeforms into the present day, Eng invites viewers to contemplate the vastness of geological time and puts humanity’s relatively short existence into perspective.
