George Ames Aldrich, born in Worcester, MA in 1871, studied in New York and France, spending years in Brittany and Normandy, capturing the beautiful streams and villages on canvas. In the 1920s, he returned to the US, spending time in Massachusetts, Indiana, and eventually settling in Chicago for the last decades of his life. Aldrich is known as perhaps the best portrayer of streams, able to capture ripples and eddies in amazing detail, his work reminiscent of his mentor the Norwegian master Frits Thaulow.
