Press Release
Michele Mikesell has created a new body of work, The Outer Banks. In this body of work, Mikesell has centered her focus around the idea of flight. The Outer Banks is the location where the Wright Brothers had their first successful powered flights. Greek mythology is also a primary focus in the work; many mythological creatures and gods of flight are depicted. Mikesell’s portraits are often derived from Renaissance portraiture and she combines the portraiture with heavily stylized figures and layers of paint.
