In pondering how to address and contextualize the work of Pablo Dávila for this exhibit, I decided it would be best to compile a list of artists that have used perforation as a creative gesture. It seemed more accurate to create a framework situated diagonally from the pieces than explaining them; however, when I started working on it, I noticed that it would consist of organizing a genealogy, a sort of art history, instead of producing a language to read Dávila’s work. The list seemed counterproductive.

Yet eventually it struck me that it did not have to be exhaustive, so I moved forward …
