Russell is best known for paintings of (invented) monographic catalogues of famous artists—from Rembrandt to Richter—which he paints as seen from an acute side angle, but his pictorial subject matter encompasses everything from internet mugshots of people sharing his name to monumental depictions of tea cups.
At OSMOS Station, Russell presents a selection of small paintings depicting clouds, paired with, or set in contrast to, self-portraits and riffs on iconic artworks, such as Michelangelo’s David and Gerhard Richter’s painting cycle “18 October, 1977”.
