ENCOUNTERS | Ricardo Fernandes Gallery Sylvia Morgado | Performance | Tell me your story – Empowering Women in The Face Of Adversity Performance that proposes a dialogue between the three Brazilian artists represented by Ricardo Fernandes Gallery: Juliana Sícoli, Lucia Adverse and Sylvia Morgado. proposes 2 performances that are inter-connected with both artists, Juliana Sícoli and Lucia Adverse, proposing a dialog among them. Inspired by Juliana Sícoli’s body of work “Still I Speak”, who examined letters from women who attended psychiatric hospitals in Barbacena (MG), São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, giving them voice, Sylvia Morgado will give voice to those with existential questions. Inspired by Lucia Adverse’s research on her series Natureza Viva (Living Nature), Sylvia Morgado will open the debate of systems of oppression and the difficulties women have faced since centuries. Sylvia Morgado will make use of one of her many beloved typewriters, to invite the audience to share with her stories of women who are daring and corageous and make a difference in the world. It can be their own stories, or from someone close or famous. Participant’s only need to bring their stories to contribute to the performance. Sylvia is an artist with a socially engaged pratice and she collaborates with organisations, including LAWA - Latin American Women Aid; arts organisations and mental health wards in East London, delivering arts and wellbing workshops. Motivated by the intersections between the two artists and her own practice, in this performance, Morgado will listen to participants to collect biographies of strong women around the world and give them voice, creating a newspaper and an art piece as a result of her unique performance. Duration: 1h30
