Sabrina Amrani is delighted to announce that Joël Andrianomearisoa is the recipient of the IV Audemars Piguet Award for the production of a work of art. His work, The Labirynth of Passions, will be exhibited in ARCOmadrid 2016 VIP Lounge, within the Audemars Piguet space, during the celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the Fair, from 24 to 28 February. The jury, composed by Miguel Zugaza, director of the Museo del Prado; Oliva Arauna, collector and former gallery owner; Ruben Fernandez-Costa, journalist; Winka Angelrath, Audemars Piguet Exhibition Manager; Eloy Martínez de la Pera, cultural manager; Carmen Saenz, Director of Audemars Piguet Iberia and Carlos Urroz, director of ARCOmadrid, has selected Joël’s project from the 44 projects submitted by galleries worldwide. Joël Andrianomearisoa thus becomes the first non-Spanish artist to receive this award with his project The Labirynth of Passions, a diptych consisting of a piece made of white silk paper and its dark twin that lets us see different kinds of emotions: melancholy, passion, love, nostalgia. The jury praised the depth of his message, which is a reflection on the opposition between blinding light and total darkness which, although seemingly opposite, may actually be animated by the same forces. In addition, the jury has also highlighted the artist will to present a work that is "not a melancholic meditation on love and loss, but a powerful recognition of the possibility of staying alive, in the midst of cruel and brutal forces”.
