In the exhibition Motel Corona, S.M.A.K. presents twenty new artworks that entered the collection through the Flemish Community’s resilience acquisitions scheme, which was launched in the wake of the global pandemic.

Museums and artists were unable to show artworks during the lockdown, which had huge financial repercussions. In 2021, the Flemish Community compensated for this loss by making 3.75 million euros available for contemporary art acquisitions. This also provided a significant boost to Flanders’ contemporary art collection.
