The Thompson Landry Gallery would like to invite you and your team to cover "Clair-Obscur," opening on June 20th, 2019.
“Clair-Obscur” is a complex and exciting exhibition by Québec artists Martin Rondeau and Marie-Josée Roy.
Martin Rondeau’s process of manipulating his photographs into woven works of art is reinvigorated in this latest showcase, and, at the same time, this methodology will be reinterpreted through the medium of sculpture. His exploration of the concepts of femininity, representation, as well as the philosophy of aesthetics, will all be on full display. Alternatively, Marie-Josée Roy’s delicate and intricate sculptural works will be paired with her signature paintings on industrial aluminum. In this particular body of work, Roy speaks to childhood, its purity, its troubles, and finally, how our upbringing and roots stay with us and alter our present-day realities. Both artists use the words of Indian philospher Jiddu Krishnamurti as a basis for the exhibition; "everything is hidden, dark, veiled; can we expect it to be discovered and unveiled…"
