Master Class with Amanda McCavour
Sat, Nov 7, 2015 from 10:00am – 3:00pm UTC
Virginia MOCA exhibiting artist Amanda McCavour will lead participants in a Master Class focusing on constructing dynamic surfaces through the use of embroidery and water soluble stabilizer. Starting with an experimental approach to stitch, students will incorporate a variety of materials to create textured, embellished surfaces. Students will create a variety of samples using stitching, thread, Japanese papers and fabrics. The constructed cloth can be used for collages, wearable art pieces, or as grounds for more embroidery. Students must supply their own sewing machine, embroidery hoop, and are encouraged to bring thread or fabric that they would like to incorporate into their project. If you would like to participate in the class, but do not have access to a sewing machine please contact Truly Matthews, Associate Curator of Education at 425-0000 x329 or [email protected]. Pre-registration required.
