Gedruckt und volendet in der Keyserlichen Reichs Stat Nürnberg/ durch Hans Guldenmundt den Eldern. M. D. XLIII. Folio. Title with coloured woodcut with double-headed eagle and 15 pp. with 12 woodcuts in contemporary colouring.
From documents concerning the city of Nuremberg we can conclude that Hans Guldenmund submitted a book with woodcut representations of various German emperors in February 1543. The book, which is today an utmost rarity, was obviously a success, for Guldenmund published a new edition of it still in the same year. In a third edition, which is not by Guldenmund, the representations are framed with an architectural border that is thought to be a design from Hans Brosamer.Guldenburg in this work exceptionally calls himself “the elder” to distinguish himself from his son.The beautiful full-figure and beautifully coloured woodcut portraits are attributed to Erhard Schön, Niklas Stör , Peter Flötner, Virgil Solis and Hans Brosamer.
We have not found this book recorded in any American library.
