JAUME PLENSA, The universal language of heads

Jaume Plensa represents the man as a collective, participating into a dialogue between the visual form and the language. He tries to put on shape the relationship he maintains with the human being, that’s why he draws a tangible entity. Jaume Plensa’s objective as an sharing act, is that the observer identifies himself with the characters represented. Bring to life human beings through a great variety of existences, but always on their true dimensions. It has to be a source of emotion and creation. That’s why Plensa himself writes “my artwork is their memory”, he writes to free them.

The book comes together with a sculpture case of rigid molded polyurethane with a matte white mineral fill finish, it closes using neodymium magnets. The sculpture case consists of two bodies 32 x 50 cm each. Additionally, a black jesmonite base with the artist's name in relief is included.

Jaume Plensa considers the studio as an extension of his head. The place where ideas are born and where these ideas become reality.

This book invites us to know the starting point of all his creations, the place where his ideas are generated. Is a testimony of his extraordinary work, through an artist's book created in collaboration with Plensa. A numbered edition, signed by the artist and limited to 2,998 copies.

The case, an original serial sculpture created especially for this edition, represents the face of a girl with her eyes closed, an iconic image of Plensa's artistic universe. Inside it houses two volumes, giving us access to the artist's most intimate world.

The Art Book reveals the creative process of the works, with unpublished images from Plensa's personal archive and several reflections that have marked his artistic career. On the other hand, Apuntes y annotaciones, the Book of Studies, constitutes a direct journey to the germ of ideas or to the most inaccessible part of the artist through faithful reproductions of his notebooks.
