The Back Story of the 30x40 group show

Alec Nierinck ( Life Is Art Gallery Antwerp ) & Hubert Kalkman ( Kalkman Gallery) started brainstorming about a collaboration end of 2023. They both wanted a basis for a group show. To keep it simple and also keep the creative process autonomous for their artists, the only thing connecting the work to the show was a wooden panel-box of 30x40x6 cm. All artists wanting to participate got one and they had full freedom. The result is a group show with a broad spectrum of artistic bursts

Life Is Art Gallery & Kalkman Gallery differ very much in choice of artists, but they have the same sense of responsibility towards their collaborating artists. Alec & Hubert are looking to accomplish visibility for all artists participating in this show. The strong contrast between the artworks will hopefully make them jump out at the viewer. And whether you like the work or not, each individual work will act as a portal to the rest of the artist's work. Alec & Hubert will gladly show the visitor more of an artist by guiding them to the right website or catalogue. 30x40 opens with a festive preview on Oct 24th, from 7-9PM - Sint-Jorispoort 23, 2000 Antwerp, Belgium
Invitation: Preview opening Oct 24th, 7-9PM
We invite you to our special opening of “30x40”, a group project by Kalkman Gallery & Life Is Art Gallery. Bringing together over 40 artists from 2 galleries. Come join us for a drink and a fun evening! The project started by giving all the invited artists a wooden painting panel of 30 x 40 x 6 cm with the instructions of going any direction the want with it. The only limit being their own creativity. As a result they all create their own artwork with it. The panel connects all of the artists

"Do Not Ride On The Crocodiles" by James Howden
Using the 30 x 40 cm panel, James Howden manipulated the wood to make a mold for a bronze wall sculpture. A plaque which looks like an old enamel warning sign. He even ran over it with a pallet truck form his workshop, to get the necessary dents, before being happy with the end result. 40x30x2 cm - Polished bronze - Edition of 3 - Worldwide shipping
