We are delighted to invite you to the exhibition “Boreal” at the gallery She BAM! Laetitia Gorsy.
Theresa Möller's work reminds us that man is a guest and must come to terms with nature, develop strategies to live with it and stop trying to dominate it.
Theresa Möller is a German artist born in 1988 in Hamburg. She is known for her evocative landscape paintings that blend abstraction and realism, often transporting viewers into imagined, dreamlike environments. Möller studied illustration at the University of Applied Sciences (HAW) in Hamburg and later earned a diploma in painting and fine arts graphics from the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB) in 2018.
Theresa Möller has exhibited her work across various prestigious venues and art fairs internationally, including in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the United States. She has been featured in numerous exhibitions, both solo and group, showcasing her unique style that blends abstraction with elements of nature. Additionally, her work has been included in several prominent collections, reflecting her growing influence in the contemporary art scene. Möller has also been supported by multiple grants and artist residencies, such as those at Künstlerhaus Eckernförde in Germany and Fonderie Darling in Montréal, Canada.
BOREAL
In her most recent works, Theresa Möller shows a fascinating journey through the formative landscape she experienced over three years in Canada. It is above all the endlessness of the landscapes that captivates Möller. The endlessness begins just a few kilometres from her front door and seems unbounded by civilization.

The endlessness that was her home for three years. Möller lived and worked in Montreal and experienced a completely new climate and vegetation zone, the effects of which also found their way into her work. The exhibition title “Boreal” is therefore almost like a souvenir.

SUCCESSION
Long, harsh winters create living conditions that are unwelcome to humans. Uncontrolled boreal forest fires rage, releasing clouds of smoke that obscure the sun for weeks on end. Even in her studio, she feels exposed to nature in its extremes, as it is absorbed through all her senses.

At the same time, these very fires create fertile soil and new living space: this cyclicality and the constant interplay between destruction and renewal. The power of nature is omnipresent, threatening and impressive simultaneously. It is precisely these emotions and sensory experiences that transform Möller’s work. The subject and color scheme contrasts barren, harsh impressions with vibrant colors and dynamic compositions.

NIGHTLY LIGHTS
The once lush jungles and dense foliage give way to barren trees, lakes and vast nude landscapes. Möller opens up an extreme spatial distance within the canvas. Some areas of color blur into one another, flicker and vibrate. Her subjects are applied to the canvas with gestures, precisely and decisively, horizontally and vertically in several layers of paint. The subtlety of the figurative elements invites exposure. Yet Möller’s use of color remains characteristic: lively, decisive and clear.

TRANSCIENCE
She creates surreality in mauve pink, bright, vivid lime green, strong cobalt blue, and bright orange. Möller’s most recent works undoubtedly carry the essence of where she lives but are by no means localized in their relevance. Her paintings reveal a threatening and fascinating world, and they summarize the power and beauty of nature. They remind us that man is a guest and must come to terms with nature, develop strategies to live with it and stop trying to dominate it.
