The Photography Show, presented by AIPAD, will be held March 30 - April 2, 2017, at its new location at Pier 94 in New York City. More than 100 of the world’s leading fine art photography galleries will present a range of museum-quality work including contemporary, modern, and 19th-century photographs, as well as photo-based art, video, and new media. One of the world’s most important annual photography events, The Photography Show is the longest running and foremost exhibition dedicated to the photographic medium.

The Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) is working closely with galleries, curators, artists, and collectors to create an expanded program for the highly anticipated 37th edition of the fair, which commences with a vernissage on March 29, 2017.

“This will be the most exciting year in AIPAD’s history,” said Catherine Edelman, President, AIPAD, and Owner, Catherine Edelman Gallery, Chicago. “We are thrilled to be building an innovative and larger fair at Pier 94 with more U.S. galleries, more international galleries, and even more of the expertise, scholarship, and connoisseurship that people expect from AIPAD.”

SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS

For the first time, The Photography Show will have the opportunity to present special loan exhibitions. Three exhibitions will be on view at the Show with photography from the noted private collections of Martin Margulies, Artur Walther, and Madeleine Plonsker.

TALKS AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS

An expanded program of talks and panel discussions featuring leading curators, artists, collectors, and journalists will be announced In January.

AWARDS AND HONORS

The Arnold Newman Prize for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture, presented by Maine Media Workshops + College, will be awarded to a photographer whose work demonstrates a compelling new vision in the genre of portraiture. The prizewinner, who receives an award of $20,000 and an exhibition in New York City, will be announced during the vernissage for The Photography Show on March 29, 2017. An exhibition featuring the finalists will be on view at The Photography Show. The annual award was established by the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation in 2009 to recognize and reward excellence in new directions in photographic portraiture.

The AIPAD Award honors visionaries who have contributed to the field of photography including artists, curators, publishers, and others. The first recipients of the newly inaugurated annual award are Sandra Phillips, longtime curator of photography at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Anne Tucker, founding curator of photography at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Both curators will be honored in a public celebration during The Photography Show.

EXHIBITORS

The Photography Show – presenting more than 100 exhibitors with 40 new participants – will feature galleries from across the U.S. and around the world, including Europe, Asia, Canada, Mexico, the Middle East, and South America.
