Dutch artist Joachim van der Vlugt has just joined us at Artistics. He is the epitome of a contemporary artist and yet gets all his inspiration from the classic masters of Flemish painting. He takes the two traditional registers of landscape and portrait and mixes them around.

All the fascination of Joachim's paintings stems from the spontaneity of the gesture, driven by raw energy and a very sound and solid technique, from which one can easily gauge the influence of the great Flemish masters.  The artist works with a limited range of colors and yet obtains, in superposing layers, a depth and an intensity which plunges the viewer into endless exploration. Each layer conceals an image and thus the superposing layers give the impression of a temporal evolution. A fixed image but still the artist successfully conveys the idea of time passing.
