Art Basel Miami Beach will bring together 283 galleries from 38 countries and territories for its 2024 edition, which will run from December 6th to 8th (the fair’s VIP preview days are on the 4th and 5th). Returning to its 2022 size, this year’s event will mark a slight expansion from the 277 exhibitors in 2023.

For its 22nd year, the fair will welcome 32 first-time participants, which were likely enticed by a new minimum-sized booth option that aims to make the fair more accessible to smaller galleries. This initiative is part of a broader sliding-scale pricing system adopted in 2019, and used across the Art Basel fairs, where galleries with larger booths pay more per square meter.

“It’s clear that galleries in the main sector will not be holding back come December, bringing their best of the best to this all-important fair in the world’s leading art market,” said Art Basel Miami Beach director Bridget Finn. “It was incredibly important that we carve out a more equitable path to participation for small and mid-sized galleries entering the main sector of this show, and the proof is in the extraordinary number of newcomers joining this edition.”

This year, Art Basel Miami Beach will be organized into four sectors: Galleries, Nova, Survey, and Positions. The Galleries sector, the backbone of the fair, features 227 established galleries from around the world. This year, 25 galleries will present in the main sector for the first time, including 12 galleries who exhibited in the fair’s other sections last year, including Daniel Faria Gallery in Toronto and Instituto de Visión in Bogotá. Meanwhile, four main sector participants are making their first appearance at the Miami fair altogether, including Gallery Baton, Pearl Lam Galleries, Leeahn Gallery, and Gallery Wendi Norris.

Nova, designed for younger galleries to show new works by up to three artists, will feature 21 galleries presenting a total of 40 artists. This sector will include nine newcomers, including New York tastemaker Charles Moffett and Paris’s Galerie Allen. Elsewhere, Positions will focus on solo exhibitions of emerging and mid-career artists, with 15 participating galleries—nine of which are making their Art Basel Miami Beach debut. Lastly, Survey will offer a more art historical angle from 17 galleries, including 10 newcomers, which will present exhibitions highlighting overlooked artists, particularly 20th-century women artists.
