The latest

Eser Gündüz’s gestural multimedia paintings have elicited serious demand on Artsy this past week, with the number of collectors inquiring on the artist’s work more than quadrupling since the week before. The Istanbul-based artist references numerous disciplines in his compositions, including scientific diagrams and architectural drawings, merged with abstract elements that culminate in structural examinations of utopias. This week’s surge in inquirers indicates the broad appeal of Gündüz’s retro-futurist works and mirrors his frenzied primary-market demand.

Key figures

  • Gündüz has achieved one of his most significant career milestones last year. Last September, the artist launched his first collaborative project with the Swiss luxury watch company Franck Muller and Spanish beer brand Estrella Galicia. Gündüz’s frenetic works were displayed on the walls of Frank Mueller’s Madrid store to commemorate the brand’s line of fall watches in 2020. For the collaboration, the artist created a series of paintings that fittingly played with the concept of time.
  • Two months later, the artist received his first solo exhibition, “Ghost Vector,” at Roman Sviridov in Milan. The nearly sold-out show presented a new body of mixed-media works on polyurethane. The pieces, exhibited in an array of colorful, baroque frames, highlighted the various techniques and ideas the artist picked up when he was an architecture student at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Turkey.
  • Following the success of his debut solo in January, Gündüz was the subject of a profile that ran in Vogue Turkey’s May print edition. The interview largely focused on the prolific artist’s future plans, as well as his artistic path.
  • The interest in Gündüz’s experimental work using unconventional materials has quickly surged on Artsy as a result of these high-end collaborations and solo exhibitions. His work first appeared on the platform in 2020, and thus far in 2021, the number of inquiries on Gündüz’s work has already nearly doubled last year’s total. This demand is also reflected in the surge of the artist’s total count of followers, which has nearly quadrupled from the year prior.

Gündüz’s art market trajectory seems likely to continue its ascent. Alongside his gallery exhibitions and commercial projects, the artist sells limited-edition and unique booklets that encompass a wide range of topics from mythology to artificial intelligence. Last month, Gündüz also unveiled an artist-designed sleeve for Ruinart Champagne. The white sleeve was filled with Gündüz’s characteristic indecipherable text and scrawls. Gündüz’s work is currently being exhibited in his second solo show, “Backseat Adventures,” at Roman Sviridov, giving collectors an opportunity to acquire a piece by the rising artist.
