Tim Blum renames gallery to BLUM and announces a new space in Tribeca.

Tim Blum announced today that Blum & Poe will be rebranded simply as BLUM. Ahead of the gallery’s 30th anniversary, Blum also revealed plans to open a larger New York location in 2024.

Alongside its current locations in New York’s Upper East Side, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, BLUM will introduce a two-floor, 6,200-square-foot gallery at 9 White Street in Tribeca. The expansion will bolster the gallery’s ability to showcase extension exhibitions in New York, marking a new chapter for the long-standing gallery.

To celebrate the gallery’s third decade, BLUM will present a survey of Japanese art from the 1960s to the present day in Spring 2024 at the new Tribeca location. The exhibition, co-curated by Blum and independent curator Mika Yoshitake, nods to the dealer’s first trip to Japan four decades ago—a journey the gallerist has recognized as being instrumental for BLUM’s founding and development.

“It’s a major moment in the gallery’s history, in my personal history, my family’s, and our collective future,” Blum commented. “This coming chapter will unveil new relationships with artists, new initiatives in publishing, and a beautiful new space in Tribeca, which will enable us to build upon the legacy of ambitious shows that we have been staging in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and New York for years. I feel emboldened by the amazing global team we have built and the outstanding group of artists, some of whom we have worked with for 30 years.”

In the past, BLUM’s exhibitions have showcased prominent artists, including Yoshitomo Nara and Takashi Murakami. The forthcoming show promises to feature pieces from monumental Japanese artists from the last several decades, some previously presented by the gallery.
