Yilmaz Dziewior, Director of Museum Ludwig, on the Top 6 Works at Art Cologne

There have been few buzzier names in the European curatorial world over the past few years than Yilmaz Dziewior. Director of Cologne’s esteemed Museum Ludwig since February of this year, Dziewior made a name for himself at the Kunsthaus Bregenz, which he led starting in 2009 after leaving the Kunstverein in Hamburg. The curator managed to create an impressively international profile for the small institution located on Lake Constance, garnering critical acclaim for—among others—a survey of Cosima von Bonin’s work early in his tenure and, more recently, “Liebe ist kälter als das Kapital,” a group show mixing emerging artists like Neïl Beloufa and Mariechen Danz with giants like Cindy Sherman and Isa Genzken.

Dziewior was also tapped as commissioner of the Austrian Pavillion at this year’s Venice Biennale, and selected interdisciplinary artist Heimo Zobernig to fill the Robert Kramreiter-conceived space. Ahead of the 2015 edition of Art Cologne, he perused Artsy’s preview of the fair to select six works worthy of any collection—including that of the museum he now runs.
