Mercedes Vilardell

Mercedes Vilardell, born in Spain, is a lawyer with an MA in Contemporary Art from the university of Barcelona and a collector of contemporary African art since 2010. She is Chair of the Tate African acquisitions committee and member of the International Council.

Vilardell travels regularly to the African continent and supports emerging artists through the Gasworks residencies and Delfina foundation, as well as other initiatives over the years, including the Lubumbashi Biennial, Rencontres de Bamako, Addis Foto Fest, Asiko, Independant Curators International and the Venice Biennial.
