An alliance between Ch.ACO, FAVA and Matucana 100: “Agorafilia: Women Creators” is coming
On Monday, August 31st, the real montage of the exhibition “Agorafilia: Women Creators” begins, which includes 15 artworks by Chilean women. The exhibition will be available to the public through virtual reality and different online activities that will take place on the online platforms of Ch.ACO and Fundación FAVA.
We spoke with Elodie Fulton, director of Ch.ACO and Irene Abujatum, director of FAVA, to find out more details about this exhibition at the Matucana 100 Cultural Center, where it reopens its visual arts cycle.
What is the exhibition “Agorafilia: Creative Women” about?
Elodie Fulton (E.F.): Ch.ACO commissioned the curator Carol Illanes to do an exhibition dealing with creative women. For this, the doors were opened to different national public and private collections such as the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, the collection of the Gabriela Mistral Gallery, the Collection by Juan Yarur Torres - AMA Foundation, the Ca.Sa Collection and the Carlos Javier Nuñez Collection. In addition, there were direct loans from the participating artists themselves.
In this exhibition, 15 works by women artists are featured on a tour throughout local contemporary art from 1965 to the present.
Given the new context, are there any modifications to the exhibition?
E.F.: Indeed. This exhibition had a long gestation process and has gone through several changes due to international and national contingencies. The context provides new visions and opportunities, both for the assembly of the show, as well as for the experience of the audience and for the artists themselves, that is the richness of art.
After several months of conversations with the collections and different institutions, a collaboration alliance was established with the Matucana 100 Cultural Center, which soon turns 20 years old as a contribution to the arts and creative industries. This also resignifies and modifies the context in which the instance of the exhibition occurs. In addition, M100 reopens its visual arts cycle after the confinement stage to receive and exhibit these artworks.
On the other hand, something essential about this exhibition is that it will be accessible to all audiences, both national and international, thanks to the best virtual reality technology. Regardless of the place or time, everyone can enter and visit it on the Ch.ACO and FAVA websites. They will be able to tour the exhibition, get closer to the works, view the sculptures from all angles, see the complete audiovisual works and even experience a sound installation.
Are there more activities related to the exhibition?
Irene Abujatum (I.A): Of course. There will be talks, guided tours, Instagram Lives and mediation activities. The idea is to broaden the experience of the exhibition and show what is often not seen, the process behind it. In this sense, for example, the Instagram Lives will be held from the same space and during the montage process, making the work team, the artists and collaborators known.
The first discussion will be broadcast from Matucana 100 by Zoom, on Wednesday, September 9th at 12:30 p.m., where they will welcome and explain what the exhibition consists of and all the work behind it. All activities will be free and open access for anyone who wants to participate, which will be announced through our social networks, Ch.ACO and FAVA.
Fundación FAVA's collaboration with this exhibition is in line with its mission, which is “Collecting contemporary art as a contribution to education and the construction of cultural heritage”. We believe that it is very important to generate institutional dialogue and to reveal the cultural heritage of Chile, especially through these creative women. In addition, FAVA's because of the constant desire to contribute to education through art, the foundation has developed a mediation program that includes an educational booklet for schools, where the works present are reflected on and activities to be carried out are recommended. We also have prepared some special talks for students and schools, but obviously everyone is invited to participate. We will tell you interesting stories about the works, the entire process involved in holding an exhibition and how to make this 3D tour a unique experience.
Una alianza entre Ch.ACO, FAVA y Matucana 100: Ya viene “Agorafilia: Mujeres Creadoras”
El lunes 31 de agosto comienza el montaje real de la exposición “Agorafilia: Mujeres Creadoras” que incluye 15 obras de artistas mujeres chilenas. La exhibición estará disponible para el público por medio de realidad virtual y diferentes actividades online que se realizarán por las plataformas online de Ch.ACO y Fundación FAVA.
Hablamos con Elodie Fulton, directora de Ch.ACO e Irene Abujatum, directora de FAVA, para saber más detalles sobre esta exposición en el Centro Cultural Matucana 100, instancia en la que reabre su ciclo de artes visuales.
¿De qué trata la exposición “Agorafilia: Mujeres Creadoras”?
Elodie Fulton (E.F.): Ch.ACO encargó a la curadora Carol Illanes una exposición que tratara sobre las mujeres creadoras. Para eso, se abrieron las puertas a distintas colecciones nacionales públicas y privadas tales como: el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, el Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos, la colección de la Galería Gabriela Mistral, la Colección de Juan Yarur Torres - Fundación AMA, la Colección Ca.Sa y la Colección de Carlos Javier Nuñez. Además se contó con préstamos directos de las mismas artistas participantes.
En esta exposición, se presentan 15 obras de artistas mujeres en un recorrido por el arte contemporáneo local que abarca desde 1965 hasta la actualidad.
Dado el nuevo contexto, ¿existen modificaciones en la exposición?
E.F.: Efectivamente. Esta exposición tuvo un proceso largo de gestación y ha pasado por varios cambios debido a las contingencias internacional y nacional. El contexto entrega nuevas visiones y oportunidades, tanto para el montaje de la muestra, como para la experiencia de la audiencia y para las mismas artistas, eso es lo rico del arte.
Luego de varios meses de conversaciones con las colecciones y diferentes instituciones, se estableció una alianza de colaboración con el Centro Cultural Matucana 100, el que pronto cumple 20 años siendo un aporte para las artes e industrias creativas. Esto también resignifica y modifica el contexto en que se produce la instancia de la exhibición. Además, M100 reabre su ciclo de artes visuales luego de la etapa de confinamiento para recibir y exhibir estas obras.
Por otra parte, algo esencial de esta exposición es que podrá ser accesible para todo público, tanto nacional como internacional, gracias a la mejor tecnología de realidad virtual. Sin importar el lugar ni la hora, todos podrán ingresar y visitarla en el sitio web de Ch.ACO y FAVA. Podrán recorrer la muestra, acercarse a las obras, visualizar desde todos los ángulos las esculturas, ver las obras audiovisuales completas e incluso experimentar una instalación sonora.
¿Hay más actividades vinculadas a la exposición?
Irene Abujatum (I.A): Por supuesto. Habrá conversatorios, visitas guiadas, vivos de Instagram y actividades de mediación. La idea es ampliar la experiencia de la exposición y mostrar lo que muchas veces no se ve, el proceso que hay detrás. En este sentido, por ejemplo, los Instagram Live se realizarán desde el mismo espacio y durante el proceso de montaje, dando a conocer al equipo de trabajo, las artistas y colaboradores.
El primer conversatorio será transmitido desde el Matucana 100 por Zoom, el miércoles 9 de septiembre a las 12:30 hrs, donde se dará la bienvenida y se explicará en qué consiste la muestra y todo el trabajo que hay detrás. Todas las actividades serán gratuitas y de acceso libre para todo aquel que quiera participar, las que se irán anunciando por medio de nuestras redes sociales, de Ch.ACO y FAVA.
La colaboración de Fundación FAVA con esta exposición está en línea con su misión que es “El coleccionismo de arte contemporáneo como aporte a la educación y a la construcción de patrimonio cultural”. Creemos que es muy importante generar diálogo institucional y relevar el patrimonio cultural de Chile, en especial a través de estas mujeres creadoras. Además, debido al anhelo constante de FAVA de contribuir a la educación a través del arte, la fundación ha elaborado el programa de mediación que incluye un cuadernillo educativo para colegios, donde se reflexiona sobre las obras presentes y se recomiendan actividades para realizar. Además tenemos preparado algunos conversatorios especiales para estudiantes y colegios, pero obviamente están todos invitados a participar. Les contaremos historias interesantes de las obras, todo el proceso que implica realizar una exposición y cómo hacer de este recorrido 3D una experiencia única.
