A Rare Lithograph by Robert Rauschenberg
Romances (Elysian) 1977
Detour Gallery presents Robert Rauschenberg's "Romances (Elysian)" 1977, a lithograph. Rauschenberg, one of the key fgures of the late twentieth-century rebellion against abstract expressionism, worked with many unconventional materials ranging from photographs to scraps of paper of the street to a taxidermy goat. He habitually created works in series and Romances is a collection dating from the height of Rauschenberg's experimentation in printing.
This stunning lithograph printed at Gemini GEL has their embossed seal on the lower left-hand corner. It is uniquely signed in pencil with Rauschenberg's name and Change Inc., an organization Rauschenberg personally established. Of the ffty lithographs that were produced in this edition, only two were signed with the inclusion of Change Inc.
