10 Latin American Artists You Should Know at arteBA 2014
For over two decades now, arteBA has returned to Buenos Aires each year, serving as a major international platform for Latin American artists. An expected 100,000 visitors will attend the fair this weekend and among the 500+ artists represented, they will experience a rich presentation of Latin American artists, with a strong showing from within Argentina. Based on artists that received the most follows during our preview of the fair, we offer the below list of trending Latin American artists. Locally born and Buenos Aires-based female artists dominate this selection, including Jazmin Berakha, maker of intricate embroidered works; expat Amalia Pica, based in London and presenting her intersecting forms in sculpture and photograph; and Fernanda Laguna, who counts her signature paintings—vibrant landscapes filled with amorphous silhouettes and geometric shapes—among her many talents (she’s also a poet, writer, and curator).
