Between fantastical works on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, innovative prints in Singapore, and socially centered art in Arizona, this week there is bound to be a follow-worthy gallery to match your artistic tastes.
Susan Eley Fine Art: New York’s Susan Eley Fine Art is a salon-style gallery located in an Upper West Side townhouse, providing an intimate setting for works by emerging and mid-career artists. Next week the gallery opens “The Tall Tale: Folk, Fantasy, and Fear in Art of the Fairy Tale”—a group show featuring a range of paintings, prints, and photographs tapping into themes of childlike wonder.
Singapore Tyler Print Institute: A catalyst for innovations in printmaking and works on paper, Singapore Tyler Print Institute is a gallery and workshop space in Singapore that collaborates with an international lineup of established and emerging contemporary artists. STPI has an exciting week approaching with the opening of “Han Sai Por - Moving Forest”, a show of the esteemed Singaporean sculptor’s prints and works on cast cotton paper, as well as their booth at Art Stage Singapore, featuring works by Goh Beng Kwan and Eko Nugroho.
Lisa Sette Gallery: Scottsdale, Arizona’s Lisa Sette Gallery is committed to showing contemporary artists who keep social issues central to their practice, working in a wide range of media. Now open at the gallery are two solo shows, Julianne Swartz’s mixed-media works that test human perceptions, and Angela Ellsworth’s sculptural installations inspired by her strict, Mormon upbringing.
Angles Gallery: Devoted to conceptual art since 1984, Los Angeles’ Angles Gallery shows a range of established and emerging artists working in painting, sculpture, video, drawing, photography, and installation. Now on view is “Tony de los Reyes: rio grande/rio bravo”, the L.A. premiere of the artist who creates brightly colored optical paintings that incorporate the physical line that traces the U.S.-Mexico border.
Adah Rose Gallery: Located just outside Washington, D.C. in Kensington, Maryland, Adah Rose Gallery is committed to artists living and working in the United States and particularly, in its capital. The gallery’s current show, “Residue” features works by Steven Charles, Michael Callaghan, duo JD Hastings and Toni Tiller, and Sharon Butler, that are decidedly straightforward in terms of medium, process and/or concept.
