Follow These Five American Galleries

This week, we highlight galleries from five different American cities. Just as varied in specializations as in locations, they range from contemporary Mexican painting to fine art photography to 20th-century French design, appealing to numerous artistic tastes.

Fred.Giampietro Gallery: With two locations in New Haven, Connecticut, Fred.Giampietro Gallery shows emerging contemporary artists and folk art. Presently the gallery shows Melissa Brown’s “Gertrude’s Nose”, a group of linoleum prints and spray-painted canvases depicting fantastical landscapes, Elisa Lendvay’s “Moon of the Moon”, an exhibition of the artist’s wire and papier maché abstract sculptures, and Cham Hendon’s vividly colored “Recent Work”, including landscapes, city scenes, interiors, and technicolor depictions of Niagara Falls.

Ruiz-Healy Art: Located in San Antonio, Texas, Ruiz-Healy Art specializes in modern and contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, and works on paper from Mexican and Texas-based artists. Currently the gallery shows Pedro Diego Alvarado-Rivera’s “Embracing the Natural World”, a group of vibrant paintings featuring ripe produce in dynamic still lifes.

333 Montezuma Arts: 333 Montezuma Arts is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and shows a range of modern and contemporary artists who work in a variety of mediums. The gallery currently shows “COSMOTIANA: The Measured Paintings (1970-1986)”, a group of 1970s geometric paintings infused with Art Deco and industrial design by Abstract Expressionist artist Hassel Smith.

Demisch Danant: New York’s Demisch Danant brings 20th-century French design to Chelsea. Focusing on the time period of the 1950s-70s, the gallery features the works of Maria Pergay, Pierre Paulin, Rene-Jean Cailette, and Joseph André Motte, among others. The gallery currently shows “Michel Boyer: The Rothschild Bank, Paris 1970”, dedicated to Boyer’s specially commissioned works for the Parisian bank that are exemplary of French design in the 1970s.

Robert Klein Gallery: Located on Boston’s Newbury Street, Robert Klein Gallery specializes in fine art photography from the 19th century to the present. The gallery shows historical photographs by Berenice Abbot, Ansel Adams, and Walker Evans, and contemporary artists including Cig Harvey, Bill Jacobson, and Paulette Tavormina. The gallery currently shows an exhibition of works by Jessica Backhaus, including vibrant chromogenic prints of reflections in water and intriguing interiors.
