Happenings: Top Art News, From America’s New Design Capital to the Passing of On Kawara

In the news last week, The Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired an ancient roman urn and 44 glass works by Carlo Scarpa (The New York Times); a Paris court rejected a claim from Guggenheim descendants who demanded that Peggy Guggenheim’s collection be displayed as it was originally presented (The New York Times); a student who lost her entire portfolio in the Glasgow School of Art fire used ashes from the building to create new work (The Guardian); San Francisco was named “America’s Leading Design City,” based on data showing it to have the highest concentration of employed design professionals (ARTINFO); and the Japanese artist On Kawara passed away at the age of 81 (The Art Newspaper).
