Art Basel, one of the most anticipated fairs of the year, played host to some of the most talked about movers and shakers in the art world last week. One such artist, Matthew Barney, was honored at a private dinner co-hosted by Tina Brown, Daphne Guinness, Dasha Zhukova, and Credit Suisse. The event took place at Kunstmuseum Basel, and was preceded by a conversation with the artist as part of Credit Suisse’s Thought Leadership Speaker Series. Barney discussed the seven years he spent working on his six-hour epic film, River of Fundament, with Tina Brown, an award-winning journalist, editor, author and the founder and CEO of Tina Brown Live Media. River of Fundament follows author Norman Mailer through a series of deaths and reincarnations across the American continent with his soul returning each time as a classic American car.

Also in attendance was co-curator of Basel’s “14 Rooms” Klaus Biesenbach; notable art-world influencers including Simon de Pury, Richard Chang, MoCA director Jeffrey Deitch, Sandy Heller, and Neville Wakefield; and artists Jenny Saville and Christian Marclay
