EXPO CHICAGO Names Jacob Fabricius As 2019 In/Situ Curator

The International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art has named Jacob Fabricius, Artistic Director of the Kunsthal Aarhus in Denmark, as the Curator of the EXPO CHICAGO 2019 IN/SITU program. Installed within the expansive, vaulted architecture of Navy Pier’s Festival Hall, IN/SITU features large- scale sculpture, video, film and site-specific works. Fabricius will curate a selection of work featuring artists from leading international exhibitors participating in the 2019 exposition.

“The appointment of Jacob Fabricius as our 2019 IN/SITU Curator follows his involvement in the exposition’s Curatorial Exchange program, allowing for the broader support of establishing major international projects developed within the city,” said EXPO CHICAGO Artistic Director Stephanie Cristello. “Having followed the work that Jacob has done at Kunsthal Aarhus, one of the strongest interdisciplinary exhibition programs in northern Europe, and abroad, we look forward to furthering the exposition’s commitment to presenting a program whose foundations are built upon contemporary global perspectives. His deep involvement with major Scandinavian institutions and the Chicago art scene will undoubtedly manifest an engaged program for our exhibitors and audience at the eighth edition this September.”

Fabricius recently curated SUPERFLEX, WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT, an exhibition at Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College, Miami, and two exhibitions at Kunsthal Aarhus including Kim Beom’s Water from Ganges River in the Cup Made with Newspaper from Congo and the group exhibition Post Institutional Stress Disorder. As part of the upcoming exhibitions at Kunsthal Aarhus, Fabricius will present exhibitions featuring work by Jimmie Durham, Maria Thereza Alves, Hwayeon Nam, Céline Condorelli, Ursula Nistrup and Amalie Smith. Opening September 2019, Fabricius is curating iwillmedievalfutureyou1 at Art Sonje Center in Seoul, South Korea.

Fabricius follows 2018 IN/SITU Curator Pablo León de la Barra, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum Curator at large, Latin America.

About Jacob Fabricius

Jacob Fabricius is currently the Artistic Director at Kunsthal Aarhus, Denmark. Fabricius previously served as Director at Malmö Konsthall, Sweden (2008 – 2012), followed by time at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, Denmark (2013 – 2014), where he curated numerous international exhibitions including a solo exhibition of works by Kerry James Marshall. Fabricius has also produced a number of international exhibitions and projects in public spaces. Fabricius is the founder of the publishing company Pork Salad Press and the newspaper project Old News. He has published and released more than 80 books, records and CDs. Fabricius is also a board member of the Danish Arts Foundation, where he works on commissioning art works for public spaces.
