The NYC Mural Arts Project Community Paint Fest took place on Saturday, May 13, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Fountain House Gallery. Driving rains did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Fountain House and Gallery community members, Hell’s Kitchen neighbors, and friends who turned out for the event. Participants of all ages, ranging from artistically experienced to newbie, picked up brushes and filled in “paint by numbers” sections of the various mural panels.

The New York City Mural Arts Project (NYC MAP) is part of the City’s effort to increase awareness about mental health and reduce the stigma that continues to surround mental illness. The mural design evolved through months of collaboration between people living with mental illness or substance use, the community at large, Fountain House Gallery, and the lead muralist. The project is funded by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Fund for Public Health.
