Frenel Morris, Brooklyn-based creative Visionaire, multiple media artist, film, photography, branding, design, publishing, and product maker. After attending Parsons School of Design, he became art director for NYC lifestyle magazines: Trace, Frank and Complex to name a few. While working in advertising with top New York agencies such as Wieden+Kennedy, he also opened the first milliner-inspired custom hat shop on the Lower East Side named Still Life, simultaneously he developed private label brands out of his Red Hook factory for Marc Jacobs, Coach, and Tommy Hilfiger. Over the next 10 years, he successfully launched GAMINE, a perfume line with his French wife, filmed ‘The Buffalo Hunt’, a documentary shot on Pine Ridge Reservation - South Dakota, which was awarded Best Cinematography at the Nice film festival and consulted on design ideation for top new indie beauty brands. With his inherent passion for everything art – filming, documenting, painting, collecting, and curating, Frenel approaches the craft with a more intimate approach of ‘capturing the process’ from behind the lens. His sensibility to the relationship he has with artists is unique and beautifully captured in his short films and studio portraits; featured talent such as Lance de Los Reyes, John Newsom, Devin B. Johnson, Dominique Fung, Rebecca Ness, Kathia St. Hilaire, and Bony Ramirez just to name a few. Adjacent to artist development and collaborating with galleries on design and creative marketing, Frenel also curates group shows of emerging artists; to date he has launched 2 curations in Brooklyn – ‘Thriller’ and currently on show ‘Apophenia’. Frenel splits his time between Brooklyn and Europe but still thinks New York is the best place on earth.
