Richard Tuttle at Tate Modern and Whitechapel
Grace Marie Roy Hess
On October 14, Richard Tuttle's commission for the iconic Turbine Hall opens at Tate Modern (London). Working with textile, the commission combines three fabrics conceived of by Tuttle specifically for this exhibition, combining man-made and natural fibers. With each of the fabrics done in one of the three primary colours, combined with the size of the work (the largest that Tuttle has ever produced), places an interesting focus on the role that textiles have had throughout the history of art. In collaboration with Tate Modern, Whitechapel (London) presents the largest retrospective of Tuttle's work ever to be shown in the UK. Showing works from the beginning of his career in the 1960s until today, the work examines how Tuttle has used textiles throughout his practice. http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/exhibition/richard-tuttle-i-dont-know-weave-textile-language
