My Highlights from 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair 2014
I was most impressed with the preview of works on offer and selected those that I would most wish to be included in our forthcoming auctions. These are works and artists that I believe are worth buying.

Hazoumè’s masks are masterpieces. He is the original!
Chéri Samba, L’employeur et l’employé, 2013, at Magnin A
You should never ignore work by Chéri Samba. He is one of the few artists with a longstanding record in a very new market.
Owusu-Ankomah, MOVING FOOTBALL, 2014, at ARTCO Gallery
Owusu’s symbols and muscular figures make his work unique. He is also a charming man and has the firmest handshake of any artist I know!
Sokari Douglas Camp, MAD COW BUS STOP GELEDE, 1995, at ARTCO Gallery
Sokari is enormously talented—a genius at metalwork. Go to her studio visit through the 1:54 fair website.
Peju Alatise, The Rapture of Olurombi’s Daughter, 2013, Art Twenty One
I love Peju’s work. We sold one this year for a record auction price.
Edson Chagas, Found not Taken, Luanda, 2009, at A Palazzo Gallery
Edson was the worthy winner of the Palm d’Or in Venice last year.
