Peter Waanders, the President and CEO of Anderson Ranch Arts Center, selects top works from Intersect Aspen.

Yinka Sonibare's print Modern Magic (In Pink), 2022 is my obvious first pick. Yinka, our 2022 International Artist Honoree, embodies the spirit of an amazing artist and human. The vibrancy of the work reflects his joyful spirit. Although based in Britain, Yinka is also funding an artist residency center in Nigeria, which adds to the magic he creates. Yinka is represented at the fair by Maximilian Gallery, owned by Albert Sanford. Albert has been a long-time supporter, friend, and former trustee of the Ranch.

Jonas Wood
Kitchen Interior, 2022
Galerie Maximillian

I highly recommend Kitchen Interior, 2022 by Jonas Wood as my second pick. Wood, together with his wife, ceramicist Shio Kusaka, were featured artists at Anderson Ranch's 2019 National Council Summer Celebration. His inspiration comes from his wife's ceramic work, which adds a unique element to his artistic style. Personally, I absolutely love his work for this reason, plus he is an incredibly talented artist.

I absolutely adore Marilyn Minter as both a human being and an artist. Her unique artistic process of capturing hyperrealistic images never fails to captivate me on both a visual and emotional level. I have had the pleasure of seeing Minter speak at the Ranch during the annual Critical Dialogue Series in 2022, and she has been a steadfast supporter throughout. If you're looking for someone whose work truly stands out and leaves a lasting impression, Marilyn Minter is the perfect recommendation.

Charles Gaines
Numbers and Trees: Palm Canyon, Palm Trees Series 4, SUITE Tree #1 Tataviam, Tree #2 Kitanemuk, Tree #3 Chumash, #4 Acjachemen, 2021
Galerie Maximillian

If you're looking for a thought-provoking artist, I highly recommend Charles Gaines. Anderson Ranch had the pleasure of hosting him as a Featured Artist in 2014, and his talent and artistic vision are simply extraordinary. In his latest piece, Gaines seamlessly blends conceptual depth with visual allure, challenging conventions, and inspiring meaningful contemplation.

Lastly, one of my favorite series offered by Hexton Gallery is by the Ranch's 2001 honoree, Christo, and Wrapped Reichstag, Project for Berlin, 1995, stands out to me. It's definitely worth checking out!

While the Ranch has well-known artists speak at our many lecture series, the true magic happens in the studios. We are passionate about nurturing artists and providing them the space to create. Andrew Jensdotter, a Visiting Artist in 2019, has two captivating pieces showcased by K Contemporary: Night Blooms, 2022 and Vogue ( Margot Robbie), 2023. His artwork exhibits a mesmerizing blend of additive and reductive techniques, resulting in multi-layered compositions rich in texture and color. Andrew's attention to detail and exploration of materials bring forth a truly stunning body of work.
