Vivian Chui is the Associate Curator at Pioneer Works, a cultural center in Red Hook, Brooklyn that builds community through the arts and sciences. She has curated Sally Saul: Blue Hills, Yellow Tree (2019) and Maia Cruz Palileo: Meandering Curves of a Creek (2018), and worked on many others at the institution. In 2021, she and Kendra Krueger will co-curate Alex Harsley: The First Light from Darkness, a retrospective that aims to provide a comprehensive view of the octogenarian artist’s six-decade practice alongside his work in founding the nonprofit organization Minority Photographers, Inc. and the East Village’s Fourth Street Photo Gallery.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Los Angeles, Chui received her MA in Modern Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies from Columbia University, where she co-curated a curious blindness (2015) at the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Gallery. Additionally, she has independently contributed writings on artists such as Darja Bajagić, Tomashi Jackson, Peter Saul and Kim Tschang-Yeul to Cultured, Ocula Magazine, GARAGE and Art Papers.

This selection of work from Intersect Chicago includes a video piece by current Pioneer Works artist-in-residence Ilana Harris-Babou, and two sculptures by former exhibiting artists Yuri Masnyj and Bosco Sodi. These are joined by a suite of others by James Edward Deeds Jr., Ralph Fasanella, Allan McCollum, Veronica Ryan and Anna Torma.
